Blacktown was one of the first white settled areas in Australia, with settlement in the area dating back to 1792, just 4 years after the first settlement at Sydney. Despite over 200 years of white settlement Blacktown is not famed for it's history nor it's historic buildings. To an extent this is understandable since the area lacks the grand stone edifices that can be found in other early settled areas such as Parramatta, the Hawkesbury and Sydney itself. Despite this, Blacktown is still home to a wealth of historic sites, both public buildings and sites and private homes. Perhaps the most well known of the former would include St Bartholomew's, the Royal Cricketer's Arms and Prospect Reservoir and the Rouse Hill Estate the best known private home.
